God has provided for us to grow in holiness in at least seven ways: - He elected us to holiness (Eph. 1:3-4).
- He freed us from sin at salvation, thereby making sanctification a real possibility (Rom. 6:22).
- He called us to holiness (Rom. 1:7; 1 Cor. 1:2; 1 Thess. 4:3, 7).
- He gave his word as a sanctifying influence (John 17:17, 19).
- He commands us to yield to his will, disciplining ourselves to pursue holiness (Rom. 6:19; 12:1; 1 Cor. 7:34; 2 Cor. 7:1; 2 Tim. 2:21; Heb. 12:14; 1 Pet. 3:15).
- He connects us with fellow believers for the purpose of mutual progress in holiness (1 Cor. 7:14; Eph. 4:11-12; 1 Thess. 3:12-13).
- He disciplines us so as to impart his holiness to us (Heb. 12:10).
